Cable Technician Level II
Full-Time
Relocation Eligible: No
Work under the direction of an operations supervisor to
install structured premises voice and data cabling
(copper and fiber). Responsibilities include
termination of voice, data and fiber optic cabling
and implementation of testing procedures. The person
in this position must create and maintain detailed
documentation on all assignments, including
accurately labeled cabling systems, completed
timesheets and any other documentation required by
Computer Input or a client. This person will
have leadership responsibility for evaluating the
progress and performance of Cable Technician Level I
personnel. A Cable Technician II must have strong
mechanical aptitude and a high school diploma or
general education degree (GED). This position
requires a minimum of two to three years
telecommunications training and/or experience. BICSI
certification at this level is desired but not
mandatory. Clean driving record required.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Company provided: Electronic test equipment for
copper and fiber infrastructure, digital cameras,
P-Touch label machine, label equipment, hammer
and rotary drills, fish tape, push poles, portable
band saw, Hilti type anchor gun, all types of
ladders and lift equipment.
Employee provided: Basic hand tools - key hole saw,
hammer, screwdriver set, side cutters, channel
locks, utility knife, punch-down tools for 110, 66,
and Leviton type connections. Volt OHM meter and
ModTap continuity tester.
DIRECTION EXERCISED
The Cable Technician II will work directly with
or for an operations supervisor. A Cable Technician
II will be responsible for
infrastructure projects with up to 50 drop locations
and will supervise up to 4 Installers.
DUTIES AND WORKING PROCEDURES
Under the direction of more experienced technical
staff, installs structured premises cabling systems
as required by National Electric Code and BICSI standards.
Installs horizontal and riser (backbone) copper and
fiber cabling infrastructure.
Tests and documents installed systems. Tests copper
and fiber cabling infrastructures using volt OHM
meter, continuity tester such as ModTap, and
electronic copper and fiber test equipment such as
Flukes, Penta and/or Wirescope.
Maintains as-built documentation - floor plans,
equipment rack layouts and cut sheets or cross
connect schedules.
Adheres to fire stopping procedures.
Understands, adheres to, and promotes the
Environmental, Health & Safety policies of
Computer Input.
Reviews time & travel reports, safety observation
forms and/or other client documentation requiring
sign-off.
